Sri Lanka going to shut down Europe embassies?

As article in philstar.com says  Sri Lankan government has decided to shut down some of its embassies in Europe.

As they day A spokesman at the ministry of Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday, that the government is of the view that embassies in Europe which are not serving any purpose in obtaining support for Sri Lanka's national issues will be closed and new embassies will be opened in Asia.

"President Mahinda Rajapaksa had discussed the issue with the government and it will now be decided exactly which embassy in which country in Europe will be closed," the External Affairs Ministry spokesman told Xinhua.

Why this Pressure on Sri Lanka over war crimes?


Nearly three years after the end of a bloody war that endured for a quarter-century, Sri Lanka faces new calls to investigate alleged war crimes and stop what is called a continuing pattern of shadowy disappearances and detentions.

The accusations have angered Sri Lankan officials, who say outsiders are meddling and fostering future terrorism, human rights groups have called for renewed international pressure on Sri Lanka to investigate allegations of serious crimes during its war with the Tamil Tigers, saying lack of accountability is fostering a sense of impunity among security forces who continue to carry out abuses under the guise of anti-terror operations nearly three years after the conflict ended.
