Sri Lanka’s Manju Wanniarachchi, 30, was given the verdict on countback after the two fighters had finished deadlocked 7-7 at the end of the three-round contest.
Sri Lanka boxing coach Dian Gomes paid tribute to McGoldrick, who he thought his man would defeat comfortably.
“We thought we could easily beat him (McGoldrick) by a big margin but I must say he was very good,” he said.
